Jaipur, Aug 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have held back their final candidate lists for Rajasthan’s upcoming local body elections, triggering widespread uncertainty and raising fears of rebellion among ticket aspirants with only two days left to file nominations.
The BJP is holding a crucial meeting at its Jaipur headquarters on Saturday to finalise candidates for municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipal boards in the Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions.
Meanwhile, internal dissent has surfaced in several areas, with Bhilwara emerging as a key flashpoint for the BJP.
BJP Mahila Morcha office-bearers in Bhilwara have accused the party leadership of promoting dynastic politics in the distribution of election tickets. The women leaders have been protesting at the BJP office, with their sit-in continuing overnight into Saturday.
The protesters are demanding greater consideration for grassroots party workers and questioning the criteria being followed for ticket distribution.
The development has added to concerns within the BJP over possible internal rebellion at a time when the party is attempting to finalise candidates across the state.
In Nadbai of Bharatpur district, the local election has taken an emotional turn. Shalu Chopra, wife of jeweller Yogendra Chopra, has entered the electoral contest from Ward No. 5.
On Saturday, Shalu filed two nomination papers, one as a BJP candidate and another as an independent candidate. Her husband, Yogendra Chopra, was allegedly shot dead on March 25, 2026, while returning home after closing his jewellery shop. His murder had caused concern in the area.
Her decision to contest the election has now become a significant talking point in Nadbai’s local politics.
A separate development in Bikaner has also drawn attention. It is being claimed that a close relative of a former BJP MLA received a phone call regarding a party ticket. Following the claim, women in the ward reportedly celebrated by banging plates. However, the BJP has not officially released its candidate list.
The delay has heightened uncertainty among ticket aspirants and raised the possibility of some disappointed candidates entering the fray as independents or rebelling against the party. The BJP leadership is continuing consultations at various levels before finalising its candidate list.
The party is reportedly considering feedback from local organisational units, elected representatives and party in-charges, along with reports on the respective aspirants.
The final list of names are expected to be decided after discussions at the Jaipur headquarters and consultations with senior party leaders.
Former minister and Jaipur division in-charge Prabhulal Saini said dissatisfaction during elections is a normal phenomenon and that workers generally return to the party fold after the election process.
The BJP has also constituted a damage-control team to address grievances, manage potential rebellion and prevent internal disputes from affecting the party’s electoral prospects.
With nominations closing in just two days, the BJP faces the twin challenge of finalising its candidates while keeping ticket aspirants and disgruntled workers from turning into electoral rivals.
